Iowa House Passes Measure to Keep Jobs in Iowa

Des Moines, Iowa – The Iowa House of Representatives today approved a measure to make sure that economic development assistance first goes to companies that employ American workers.

“Last fall, I promised to make sure that state job creation incentives would not be given to companies to create jobs overseas and I’m pleased I was able to make good on that promise,” said Representative Nathan Reichert of Muscatine.  “I’m pleased my colleagues in the House joined with me in supporting American workers today.”

Over the last three years almost three million U.S. manufacturing jobs have been sent overseas.  The outsourcing measure was adopted as part of the Economic Development Appropriations Bill, House File 809.  The measure states that businesses who receive job creation incentives must fill the new jobs created or jobs retained with American workers.
