Federal Budget Cuts Will Close Workforce Offices

Federal budget cuts will close rural Iowa Workforce Development field offices.  The maps attached show two scenarios of what will occur if the state does not replace cuts enacted by Congress.  Even though specifics may change, closures are inevitable.

“I am working with other members of the Iowa House of Representatives to find $4 million of state funds to replace cuts enacted by Congress”, said State Representative Nathan Reichert of Muscatine.

Under the first federal reduction of $1 million, fifteen Workforce Development field offices across Iowa will close.  Under this scenario the Muscatine County IWD office will close.  Under the second reduction of $4 million, thirty-nine Workforce Development field offices across Iowa will close.

“I am extremely disappointed the centers will close when families in rural Iowa are searching for better jobs to provide for their families and small businesses need assistance finding qualified employees”, Reichert said.  “It is my hope that we can find state funding to replace federal funding to assure that the offices remain open and continue to provide people and small businesses with the services they need.”
